So…

… Yesterday I got engaged!

Image

I was coming home from work and came to the front door, noticing a note had been stuck on the door. I thought it was a note from Body Corporate and was curious, but on closer inspection it said the following:

(Note: his nickname for me is ‘chicken’ but he likes to spell it as above).

It hadn’t really occurred to me what was going on despite the obvious note, so I picked up Millie and opened the door to find this:

And in the background, a guitar was humming…

As soon I stepped inside, I saw the source of the music and where the trail of rose petals lead… straight to Mark playing the guitar and singing “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz (our favourite song).

He sang the entire song and played guitar (two things that aren’t a hobby or an interest) while I held Millie and danced along, with the biggest smile on my face. He recorded the whole thing by mounting my digital camera (circled) on our couch that was flipped to act like a makeshift tripod (note to self, buy a tripod!).

After he finished the song, he took out a red velvet ring box, hands trembling and face flushed red, and asked me to marry him. I said, “Yes, yes a MILLION times YES!” and gave him the biggest hug and kiss I physically could (at this stage I had put Millie on the floor and she curiously nudged at the rose petals).

He explained that the ring is his mother’s and that it is on loan for the proposal, and that we can go ring shopping for what I want. He knows my taste is very specific which is why he asked to borrow his mum’s and let me decide what I want.

I was completely surprised, ecstatic and overwhelmed and I asked him how on earth he managed all of this (the practising, setting up etc). He said he had been practising over the last few months when I go to bed (I go to bed an hour or so earlier than him) or when I had been out of the house. I had complained that he was playing video games more often than usual in the last few months and he said he was pretending to play games when really he was practising the song on the guitar and learning the lyrics via youtube. (It’s not going to excuse the gaming, but I’ll let it slide this time :P)

There were a few stumbling blocks earlier in the day with him having to set up. Firstly, I didn’t leave for work til late, which threw off his schedule as he needed to set up the house. He left for work at his normal time and hid in his car which was parked across the street (but not super visible from my driveway) to wait for me to leave for work, but I ended up playing a video game he had set up for me on my computer a few days ago (which I’m now addicted to) and didn’t leave until an hour after he left the house. He ended up getting sick of waiting in the car, called my mum (I work for my family business) to make sure I was going to leave for work, and decided to stroll to the local bakery to get a coffee and breakfast while he waited. That was the time I decided to finally leave for work and then he saw my car pull up at the traffic lights on the main road that he happened to be walking on. Thinking I would see him, he sprinted down a side street hoping I didn’t notice him. Thankfully for him, I didn’t. It was close! I finally went to work and then he rushed back home to set up and wait until I did get home. He played games in the meantime and nearly didn’t even hear me come home, he didn’t hear my car pull up but heard me slam the door. I was dressed in the worst and laziest clothes (i.e. the clean clothes) I have and took my sweet time getting Millie out and my belongings out of the car before I walked up to the front door and the whole process started.

So on Thursday we’re going to the jewellers to discuss my engagement ring. I have a very specific design in mind, so when that’s all ready, I’ll tell you about it here! 🙂 I’m so happy and I think Mark is pretty chuffed too 🙂 We went to dinner last night and celebrated with some amazing food and drink and I’m looking forward to the rest of the journey. It sounds very weird to say, “My Fiance” but it’s sounding better and better the more I say it 🙂

Til next time!

Three Months To Thirty Update: So far FAILING

So, typically, I spent the first few weeks working my butt off at the gym or exercising at home, and then it all came to a grinding halt after a weekend off (went out to the country to visit my partner’s family) where there was copious drinking and eating and all around fun stuff going on. One step forward, ten steps back, story of my life.

I’ve just lost a lot of motivation… I was hungry and working out (hungry being, I wasn’t stuffing my face every single moment of the day and my body was adjusting with the new healthy food) for ages and I thought that after a couple of weeks of doing it I’d at least stick to it, but no, it’s like my motivation just dropped off a cliff and I’m back to square one, attitude wise. I think I probably did my body good but my knee was so sore for weeks and it’s only just started to get back to normal today (#EXCUSES).

I’m pretty disappointed. I signed up for an online weight loss program when I first started to do my #ThreeMonthsToThirty, a program which, if I had stuck to, I’d nearly be finished by now. Sigh. So frustrating on one hand and on another… I just don’t really care. My brother’s wedding is coming up in 15 days and I’ve already given up, even though I know I could do a lot in those 15 days…. just ‘not enough’, so ‘why bother?’. The hardest part to change on any lifestyle overhaul is really the psychological part, the physical part might be a little painful but the intellectual/emotional/mental part is certainly the hardest to overhaul. I’m trying to break a lot of habits I created over a lifetime, so I can’t expect it to all change in 12 weeks, but I should bloody well try!

Do you have any advice on how to focus and stick to something you really hate doing but KNOW it’s good for you and you NEED to do it?

I was sent a sample Bella Box after someone contacted me via Makeupalley for my consideration. I have never subscribed to any sort of beauty / cosmetics box, but I have heard of Bella Box and others that cater for the Australian market and also the American / International equivalents. The idea of paying a fixed fee ($15.00 + free shipping for Bella Box) per month to try free beauty products is a good one, but the risk is you might get a box full of products that may not be interesting, although it seems that they cater the products in the box to your skin type (at least they seemed to match my makeupalley skin type to products they included in this sample box which was nice).

In this box I received 4 skin care samples, 1 makeup sample and 1 hair sample. The hair sample, Tony & Guy’s Texturising Glue, was the biggest sample at a whopping 100mL or 3.56 Oz, which is a mega sized sample! The smallest sample was the L’Oreal Base Magique primer, at 5mL. In total there were 6 samples included in this box, with the majority being skin care samples.

Unfortunately, I already have a very set skin care routine, so the skin care samples didn’t really excite me, and they make up the majority of the samples given. I have begun to sample the La Roche Posay cleanser and vitamin A Eye cream but haven’t yet formed an opinion on them, I also quickly tried the Model Co Cheek + Lips product and don’t like it very much, but I’ll give it a bit more time.

I’ll follow up with a meatier review post once I’ve given all the products a good try. Overall I think it’s a good concept but you do have to play a bit of a beauty sample lottery given the samples you receive may not be exactly what you expect or want. I think it’s a good range of different brands, both international and local, and the sample sizes are decent, especially if you consistently get a large sample like the texturising glue that was included in this box. If you play with beauty, hair and makeup a LOT and like to switch your products around and try out lots of different things, this could be a solution for your beauty cravings, but personally I already have a set skin care routine and don’t experiment with haircare that much. I would only be interested in subscribing to a makeup-only beauty box if there was one that catered to the Australian market, as cosmetics are the products I like to play around and switch up the most.

Have you tried Bella Box or any other beauty boxes? What are your thoughts / impressions on subscription based  sample boxes?
