I can pick my Oscars 2014 favourite makeup looks when I see them and I think to myself, “I totally want to recreate this!” These ladies NAILED IT with their amazing faces. Firstly, Cate Blanchett looks ethereal in minimal ‘no makeup makeup’ paired with undeniably bold lashes. Her look is so fresh, modern and simple. Secondly, Angelina Jolie’s cat-eye/smokey-eye hybrid looks grown-up sultry, a face that suits her persona to a tee. And last but not least, Emma Watson wears a graphic velvety rich lipstick paired with a hazey paired-down smokey eye and tousled yet formal hair, perfectly smouldering.

P.S. Elephant in the room: I’ve been absent for a little while, and I will let you know the low-down in a future post when I’ve got myself together!
Well, I’m going Nearly Naked with my beauty and makeup look for Valentine’s Day since my fiancee prefers me when I wear a ‘no makeup makeup look’ versus a full face of makeup, as pretty as pinks and reds are on that particular occasion.
I do want to have a full coverage, flawless skin look, which is why I’m including such heavy hitters as Estee Lauder’s doublewear foundation and Mac’s Prolongwear concealer, but with skillfully light/built-up strokes of the brush, I can make my skin look covered but not cakey with this combo which leaves it looking fresh and nice with a bit of setting powder over the top. Not pictured above is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette that I will set over the top of my foundation and place as a highlight over the bridge of my nose and the high points of my cheekbones. I might double the Radiant Light shade in that palette as a blush, or the Milani Baked blush in Luminoso (not pictured above).
I think that Valentine’s day looks should be about feeling your sexiest but also your most comfortable and I think our partners appreciate when we make an effort to look good for them whether it’s a downplayed more laid back makeup look, or a super vampy one. I like to think that having a Nearly Naked face has the advantage of both making you feel super comfortable for yourself, and really quite sexy for your partner, as that is often the preference I hear from men who prefer more natural makeup from their partners as more attractive. At least I know that’s what my man wants, and it’s Valentine’s Day, so, why not? 🙂
The makeup trend appeared to be oranges, reds and deep fuschia pinks on the lips, with the rest of the makeup fairly neutral. Otherwise, the celebs went with a completely neutral look on the face. Well played, Hollywood, well played.
It’s 11.06pm at the time of this writing and I will hopefully fall asleep into the wonderful and exciting land of nod. I think sleep time is the best part of my day because it’s such a difficult process for me to even get into. The heart always loves what is hardest, or something along those lines.
My beauty resolution for 2014 is to get consistent, better sleep that will help me function and contribute to society as a whole, be it doing beauty things or traditional job things or raising a family or navigating through the web that is life…. You need good quality sleep in order to get your day done.
A mask is essential if you are sensitive to light. And lip balm can guard the dry nasties from crumbling the lush lips of yours over night.
You can use a good moisturiser under the eye, while you have your sleep mask on, of course, and this will only serve to help and not hinder, the cause of getting a good nights sleep (at least you will LOOK like you did at some point).
Any other tips you might want to share about getting a good nights sleep?
